Why we invested
The team has already developed and validated molecular machines for human, industrial and planetary applications, with unprecedented control. Ankit and Connor are not chasing one-off discoveries, but building the infrastructure to make protein design predictable, development scalable and distribution inevitable.
"The companies that will survive this cycle will be the ones that take the biology as seriously as the computation" - Ankit Singhal
Ankit’s insight was that modern ML and AI techniques would transform the near infinite (20ⁿ) number of possible proteins from an impossibly vast dark space into an accessible and immensely valuable opportunity set.
In order to manifest this vision the team built a complete biological intelligence network: a family of protein generation models, an automated wet lab that generates unprecedented scale and quality of data, and a protein delivery mechanism that has never existed before.
In the near-future, the things worth building with biology won't be mere extensions of what already exists. Instead of fitting use-cases to material properties, we will engineer materials with the properties we desire from the atom up.
Ankit and Connor connected at Columbia University through a shared a passion for Biophysics, Machine Learning, Quantum Mechanics and Robotics. Together they engineered a novel photosynthetic organism that was nine times more productive than anything else on Earth. Ankit’s teenage years publishing research in quantum ML and biophysics combined with Connor’s world robotics competition accolades ground Anthrogen’s vertically integrated BioAI platform.
The end-state is not just a single blockbuster product, or even a new therapeutic modality but a biological intelligence system that spans protein generation to production to amplify all forms of life.
“Proteins are life's workhorses; being able to rationally design new molecular machines with the same precision we can design macro machines is Anthrogen's north star.”
