Dan is all-in, all the time. Dan's path to venture investing was characteristically non-linear. He began his career as an options trader at UBS and Macquarie Bank before co-founding a quantitative hedge fund in his early twenties.
Realizing he was not creating anything of lasting value while moving numbers around on a Bloomberg terminal, he pivoted to early-stage investing. Quickly becoming obsessed with the boldest and most transformative companies at the edge of what is possible. That obsession is now a life’s work. After several decades building expertise across early-stage, growth, and real-asset investing — Dan realised he was willfully unemployable and needed to build his own firm from scratch, founding Onto (fka ReGen Ventures) in 2020.
Described by Onto founders as the Zen Assassin, Dan’s formative days playing junior rugby union for Australia cemented his steely competitive streak.
Dan and his family split their time between the East Coast of Australia and the Bay Area in California.
